The Best Sunset Spots in The Hamptons
There’s no shortage of magic in The Hamptons—but it’s the golden hour that truly transforms this stretch of Long Island into something extraordinary. Whether you’re sipping rosé dockside, wandering barefoot along the dunes, or watching sailboats silhouette against the horizon, the sunsets here don’t just end the day—they elevate it.
Here are a few of my favorite places to soak in the last light.
1. Duryea’s, Montauk
Part seafood market, part summer ritual, Duryea’s is as much about the mood as it is about the menu. Perched right on Fort Pond Bay, the restaurant offers front-row seats to some of Montauk’s most cinematic sunsets. The vibe? Salty, slow, and quietly spectacular. Be warned, it’s pricey.
One evening in particular stuck with me. The dock was nearly empty, the sky caught fire, and the horizon looked like it had been lit from within. That moment inspired a print I later titled THE END, captured just as the last rays slipped behind the waterline. It felt like time took a bow.

2. Wolffer Estate Vineyard, Sagaponack
Sunset at Wolffer Estate is a masterclass in warm light and chilled wine. The vines roll out like green velvet, and the sky often plays along—blushing pink, then lavender, then deepening to indigo. On summer weekends, live music adds to the ambiance, making it feel like you’ve wandered into an impressionist painting with a jazz soundtrack.
3. Long Beach, Sag Harbor
Locals know this as "The Sunset Beach”—and for good reason. The calm bay waters reflect the sky like a mirror, creating a double sunset that feels otherworldly. Bring a blanket, a bottle, and someone you don’t mind watching the sky with in silence.
4. Montauk Point Lighthouse
For something dramatic, head to the easternmost tip of Long Island. Watching the sun sink behind the lighthouse is like witnessing a postcard come to life. The cliffs add texture, the waves add rhythm, and the whole thing feels slightly mythical—as if the sun were retreating to the edge of the world.
5. Gosman’s Dock, Montauk
Less polished than some spots but every bit as authentic, Gosman’s is a working dock with unbeatable views. Fishing boats sway gently in the current while gulls trace lazy loops overhead. The colors here are unfiltered—tangerine skies bleeding into cobalt water. There’s something comforting about watching the day end in a place that’s seen thousands of them.
The Light Lingers
Sunsets in The Hamptons don’t rush. They stretch out, linger, and invite you to do the same. Whether you're seated on a dock or chasing the last light through a viewfinder, there’s always something worth pausing for.
For me, the perfect sunset isn't just about the colors—it’s about the feeling. A quiet, expansive stillness. THE END was my attempt to bottle that.
